Madison Church of Christ to host Bob Jones’ Madrigal Dinner

Madison Church of Christ to host Bob Jones’ Madrigal Dinner

MADISON – A centuries-old form of entertainment will delight concertgoers at the 2018 Madrigal Dinner, presented by Bob Jones High School Chorus.

“We have a larger venue this year at Madison Church of Christ,” parent volunteer Stacy M. Tidwell said. Tickets were offered first to chorus parents, and tickets now are available for the public to purchase.

“The evening of wonderful vocal entertainment and fine feasting will be held on Feb. 27 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.,” Tidwell said. The 2018 production is “The Grave Prince.” “The event is sure to be a night to remember.”

Madrigal singing by an ensemble of vocalists without instrumental accompaniment was popular in the 1600s and 1700s during the Renaissance period. A madrigal song is a form of worldly or non-spiritual music that everyday audiences could understand and appreciate.

Poetry is the source of lyrics for a madrigal song. Madrigal singers usually perform a cappella.

In “The Grave Prince,” tensions are high in the royal family as the Prince suffers a plague of doom. Concurrently in another part of the kingdom, a clumsy damsel named Grace struggles to find a suitor. “In this humorous tale, you may just find that laughter is the best medicine,” Tidwell said.

Seating will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served to guests at 7 p.m.

Randall Fields works as Choral Director at Bob Jones. Fields teaches choral music courses and class piano. He also serves as musical director for the spring musical at Bob Jones.

Madison Church of Christ is located at 556 Hughes Road, just south of Bob Jones’ campus.

Tickets are $20 each. All members of Bob Jones Chorus are selling tickets, and individuals also can buy tickets at the front office at Bob Jones through Feb. 21.
