Gridiron Goals For Madison Academy Football Signees

MADISON- The Madison Academy Mustangs had four football players recently sign athletic-academic scholarships to continue playing the sport while attending college.

Tim Clark, team captain and team MVP from the 2017 season, signed with Olivet Nazarene University. As middle linebacker, Clark earned All-Region and All-City honors for the Mustangs, which gave up just 13.7 points per game during a 7-4 season.

The purple and gold Tigers play in the N.A.I.A. The school campus is located just yards from the Kankakee River in Bourbanoiss, Illinois 60 miles south of Chicago.

Clark, 5-foot-11, 215 pounds, was a spiritual leader on and off the football field serving on the school’s Spiritual Formation Team.

Wide receiver/defensive back Montrell Campbell, 6-foot, 160, will join Clark at Olivet Nazarene University. He was an important part of the secondary for the Mustangs and was named to the All-Region team.

Alex Carpenter chose to stay close to home and will attend Faulkner University in Montgomery. A student at Madison Academy for six years, he played multiple offensive positions, but was mainly a running back leading the Mustangs to 28.8 points per game. Carpenter, 6-foot, 160, was named the team’s Offensive MVP.

The royal blue and gray Eagles of Faulkner play in the Mid-South Conference as part of the N.A.I.A. Div. I.

Bronson Schad chose to attend the Merchant Marine Academy located in Kings Point, N.Y. The linebacker/running back was selected to the Class 4A All-State team and has a brother, Andy, who is a junior at Madison Academy.

The Mariners play in the NCAA Div. III and were 6-4 last season, but won their last three games of the 2017 campaign. They put up 36 points on the board each game, but allowed 30 points per outing. Schad is expected to fall into a starting linebacker role quickly.

A true scholar, Schad, 6-foot, 200, was on the Principal’s List 10 straight semesters and is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Schad, along with Carpenter and Clark, will be busy upon graduating this spring as they will participate in a school sponsored mission trip to Ecuador the week following graduation.
