Parsons completed two tours in Iraq

MADISON – Growing up in a military family, Nathan Parsons remembers moving many times with his family.

“Huntsville/Madison is where we settled,” Parsons said. “Madison is a hometown I would claim.”

“My dad was a 22-year EOD veteran. (‘EOD’ stands for ‘explosive ordinance disposal.’ These men disarmed bombs and, at one time, worked for the Secret Service). He retired in Madison after working 20 more years for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,” Parsons said.

Following his parents’ decision, Nathan, his wife Brittne and their three children relocated to Madison in 2015.

Nathan Parsons entered the U.S. Army in October 2007. At his exit from the military, Parsons had reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. “I’m medically retired (with an) honorable discharge,” he said.

In highlights of his service, Parsons completed Basic Training in October 2007 at Fort Sill, Okla. From 2012 to 2013, he served with the Horse Detachment, Honor Guard at in Fort Irwin, Calif. Parsons said that his work with the Horse Detachment was probably the favorite job that he has ever held.

His first deployment to Iraq was from 2008 to 2009. He returned to Iraq in 2010-2011. During both assignments, he worked from Schofield Barracks, 2nd Brigade 1-27 Infantry Battalion.

At Calhoun Community College, Parsons earned associate degrees in both business and accounting.

He and his wife Brittne Parsons have been married for 10 years. She works as a homemaker and is a student. Their children are third-grader Allison, kindergartner Annabelle and 22-month-old Grant.

Nathan Parsons is a member of American Legion, Post 229 in Madison. His special interests include guns, athletics, education and politics.
