ALDOT announces lane closures, stoppages for Dec. 12

HUNTSVILLE — The Alabama Department of Transportation released two separate notices advising drivers to expect temporary changes to the normal traffic flow in a couple areas Wednesday, Dec. 12.

One of these advisories noted that there will be two lane closures at the Interstate 65 and Interstate 565 interchange for the installation of a pole.

From about 9 a.m. to noon, the outside southbound lane of I-65 near Exit 340 (I-565) will be closed. Beginning at about 10 p.m., the flyover ramp from I-565 westbound to I-65 southbound at Exit 1 will be closed.

Traffic headed for I-65 southbound will be detoured west on Alabama 20, south on U.S. 31 and east on Alabama 67 to I-65 at Exit 334 in Priceville.

The ramp is anticipated to reopen by 3 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

The second notice advises drivers to expect stoppages at Alabama 255/Research Park Boulevard near Blake Bottom Road between 10 a.m. and noon. This work was rescheduled to Dec. 12 because of weather concerns.

ALDOT said the intermittent closures should not exceed 10 minutes in duration. Northbound and southbound mainline and service roads between Alabama 53 and Dan Tibbs Road will be affected. Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes if possible.

The $7.8 million Blake Bottom interchange project is sponsored by Madison County and funded through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program.
