Daevion Davis Finalist For Lineman Of The Year For Second Time

MADISON- The awards keep arriving for James Clemens’ defensive lineman Daevion Davis. The talented senior for the Jets and recent signee with Vanderbilt University was named to the First Team All-State at the completion of the 2018 season. Davis can add the honor of being a finalist for the Class 7A Lineman of the Year Award so named by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

“Daevion is an outstanding player and event better teammate,” said Wade Waldrop head coach of James Clemens.

“I owe all my success to a great mother, coaches and God, as God has given me the opportunities to be a good athlete and student,” said Davis.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pound was also a finalist for the award after the 2017 season in which the Jets posted a 3-7 record. The Jets behind the outstanding play from Davis turned around the fortunes of the program in 2018 by defeating cross-town rival Bob Jones for the first time ever, won the Class 7A Region 4 championship for the first time with a perfect 7-0 record and made it to the state playoffs.

Davis was heavily recruited by several of the major programs in the Southeastern Conference, as well as, other football rich programs from around the country. He chose Vanderbilt and will attend spring practices with the Commodores after graduating early from James Clemens with a 3.5 grade point average. He also completed his senior year at James Clemens by playing in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in early December just prior to graduation.

Davis is joined among the three finalists for the Lineman of the Year Award by Mohamoud Diabate of Auburn High, who has committed to sign with Florida, and Pierce Quick of Hewitt-Trussville.

The ASWA picks three backs for Back of the Year along with three lineman in each of the seven classifications. Each are considered for the Mr. Football Award, which will be awarded along with Back of the Year and Lineman of the Year Awards in each classification at the ASWA’s annual banquet that will take place Jan. 15 in Montgomery.
