Women’s Job Corps readies for spring classes

MADISON COUNTY – Women with all levels of education are eligible to apply for the Spring 2019 semester with Christian Women’s Job Corps of Madison County.

Women who are 18 to 60 years old can register now for free classes.

The corps helps by offering internship opportunities with local businesses, according to Susan D. Elder, site coordinator for Asbury Church Harvest site. In addition, students can learn new skills, the benefits of networking and have a professional reference to include on their updated resumes.

The corps’ board “has been considering ways to increase attendance at the Madison site. A target area is Harvest and the surrounding rural communities,” Elder said.

“After consideration, the corps board recommended pursuing a site that could offer a classroom, preferably in the northwest area of Madison County. Asbury Church Harvest has agreed to partner with us. In God’s timing, they had just attended the New Room Conference, (which) presented the issue of church buildings standing empty during the week and how to better utilize the space with local missions,” Elder said.

“We are grateful for the support Heritage Church has given us for five semesters and for sharing their home with us,” Elder said. “Many lives have been touched as together we have nurtured 20 graduates and have six more well on their way.”

Application deadline for Asbury Church Harvest will be Jan. 23, with orientation on Feb. 6. Classes will start Feb. 12. The address is 8089 Wall Triana, which is 4.9 miles north of U.S. 72 in Harvest. Ten weeks of classes will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
