Music at Messiah to feature Brophy Sisters on Feb. 10

MADISON – The Brophy Sisters will perform as a classical piano and violin duo for the Music at Messiah Classical Concert Series on Feb. 10.

Messiah Lutheran Church, 7740 U.S. 72 W. in Madison will host the concert at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary. The concert is free and open to the public.

Maeve and Linnaea Brophy hail from Memphis, Tenn. They have performed numerous times across the country and abroad.

Maeve and Linnaea Brophy believe “great music is written by those from all walks of life, and genius knows no race, ethnicity or gender. However, it is the reality of the current state of classical music that works by composers of African descent and women are underperformed.”

In their concerts, Maeve and Linnaea strive to include works by composers from these underrepresented groups.

When nine years old, Maeve Brophy gave her first solo recital; she made her orchestral debut at 15 years old. Maeve earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in piano performance from Texas Christian University. She also studied at Manhattan School of Music and New England Conservatory of Music.

Maeve has spent time working as a freelance accompanist in Memphis and for numerous student recitals at University of Memphis. In Nashville, she teaches secondary piano at Belmont University and is an Adjunct Artist Teacher at Vanderbilt University.

Linnaea Kathleen Brophy debuted as a 14-year-old in New York City’s Neue Gallerie in Manhattan as a member of the Perlman Music Program. She is pursuing a doctorate’s degree at Stonybrook University. She will be perform “Mendelssohn Concerto” with Stonybrook Symphony Orchestra in March 2019.

As a soloist, Linnaea has joined symphonies in Memphis, Nashville and Paducah, Ky., along with Alabama Symphony, Paducah Symphony and Vidin Sinfonietta in Bulgaria. During the past four summers, she has performed throughout the Netherlands, Israel and Canada while attending master classes.

Linnaea earned bachelor and master’s degree at New England Conservatory. She has won top-placing awards with Music Teachers National Association Competition, Susan Bales Violin Competition, Curb Concerto Competition and International Institute for Conductors.

Maeve has given solo and collaborative performances in Wells, England; the Amalfi Coast; Kiev, Ukraine; New York, N.Y.; San Francisco, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; Aspen, Colo.; Nashville; and Memphis.

Music at Messiah will accept donations and sponsorships, the only income source for the program.

Music at Messiah will end with a light reception so guests can meet Maeve and Linnaea Brophy. For more information, visit musicatmessiah.org Facebook/Music at Messiah.
