Emma Jarrett Hits Three Dingers In Single Game For Lady Patriots- Second In School History
MADISON- For just the second time in school history a Bob Jones softball player has hit three homeruns in a single game. Emma Jarrett hit three dingers in an 11-3 victory over Tuscaloosa County in the recent Spain Park Tournament.
“I was in total shock as I’ve never hit more than one in a game and it was so exciting when the entire team met me at home plate each time, especially the third time,” said Jarrett, a senior Lady Patriot who is a two-sport athlete at Bob Jones. She recently signed an athletic scholarship to play volleyball at UAH this fall.
The homeruns came in the first, second and third inning for the utility player/pitcher for the Patriots, who hit six homers in the game including those from Aubrie Lisenby, Emmah Rolfe and Alexa Douthitt. Sophomore Megan Shurtz was the winning pitcher in the game.
Jarrett is the leadoff hitter batting .412 with five homeruns for Bob Jones as the Patriots are 5-1 on the early season schedule. Head coach Whitney Elder-Deaver said of her exciting leadoff batter, “She’s a fun kid to coach as she’s a good person, works hard, good team leader and gives her all in everything she does. The ball just flies off her bat. She makes things happen.”
The first-at-bat homer was on a 3-0 count. “I normally hold off on that count, but I saw the perfect pitch,” said Jarrett. “I hit the ball to centerfield and it easily cleared the fence and hit the batting cages behind the field.”
The second dinger came on a 3-1 count and was hit to right centerfield and just cleared the fence for a two-run shot. The third homer was a solo shot to leftfield. “I didn’t think it would make it over as I thought I got under it, but it traveled just far enough,” added Jarrett.
The senior Patriot has started two games on the mound this season and is one of several good pitchers on the roster that Elder-Deaver understands can propel this team far into the post-season.
The only other three-homer game for the Patriots’ program came on April 19, 2013 as Sydney Booker did the honor against Colbert County in a tournament in Florence.
“It feels good to be just the second to do this as I’m seeing the ball better this season at the plate,” said Jarrett. “We celebrated after the game by stopping for doughnuts for the entire team back at our hotel.”
“She’s fun to watch and not your typical leadoff hitter as she hits the ball hard,” added Elder-Deaver.
Just to make the tournament an even better success for Jarrett, she was the winning pitcher tossing a shutout in a 1-0 win over Springville. Senior Erin Chambliss did the honors for the Lady Patriots hitting a solo homerun for the win.
