Patriots shut out Austin for first Area win

DECATUR – In a battle of top ten 7A teams, Bob Jones picked up their first area win of the year over Austin by a score of 6-0. The visiting Patriots were led by a dominant performance by Auburn commit Cam Hill on the mound.

Hill was shaky in the first inning as he walked the bases loaded before inducing a groundout to get out of the inning unscathed.  He settled in after the first inning, only allowing four hits and no walks.

Hill finished with no earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks in six innings.  Samuel Maynard pitched the seventh inning with no runs on, no hits with two walks.

The Patriots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Caden Rose reached on an error and Hill followed with a single.  Rose and Hill pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third with one out after a strikeout.  Dylan Ray followed with a 2-RBI single to score both runners and give the Pats an early lead.

Leading 2-0 in the third inning, the Patriots added two more runs for a 4-0 lead on a Hill home run to deep right field to score Rose, who reached via walk.

In the seventh inning, the Pats extended the lead once again after a Rose infield single, Hill single, Mitchell Daly sacrifice fly, and Ray single for a 6-0 final score.

Hill led the offense with three hits, including a homer with two RBIs, stolen base, and a hit by pitch. Ray added three RBIs on two singles.

Rose, Colten Carver, and Michael Strickland all had singles while Daly finished with a RBI on a sacrifice fly and a hit by pitch.

Bob Jones returns to play today with an Area doubleheader with Austin at 4:30 and 7:00 at Bob Jones High School.
