Nail sentenced for DUI wreck that claimed the life of elderly woman
HUNTSVILLE – Erica Nail, 28, found out what her sentence would be today at the Madison County Courthouse after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Nail was arrested in Feb. 2017 after she fled the scene of an accident in Madison. She struck and killed Carol Ann Arey, 75, who was walking along Edgewater Drive.
The indictment against Nail said she “recklessly caused the death of Arey by striking her with her vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol.”
Nail was set to go to trial this week, but decided to a plea arrangement instead.
After pleading guilty, Nail was sentenced to three years in prison, and 15 years on probation for the crime.
