LDS Choir, 313th Army Band plan Celebrate America Concert Saturday

HUNTSVILLE – A number of impressive musicians will share their talents for a patriotic salute in the 2019 Celebrate America Concert on May 18.

Instrumentalists with the 313th Army Band at Redstone Arsenal and a choir of 100 voices from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will combine their musical skills on May 18 at 4 and 6 p.m. The one-hour concerts will be presented at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1804 Sparkman Drive NW in Huntsville.

The concerts are open to all ages of the public. Admission is free. No offerings will be solicited or accepted.

The 313th Army Band provides music for unit cohesion and morale, musical support of military operations and patriotic awareness. The group performs for military ceremonies, formal concerts, recruiting and community relations outreach.

Choir members represent 16 congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in North Alabama. All members volunteer their time.

* City of Huntsville — Multicultural Affairs Officer Kenneth Anderson; Deputy Police Chief Corey Harris; Laurie McCaulley, board of education; Police Chief Mark McMurray; Jeff Wilson, operations director, Huntsville City Schools; Devyn S. Keith and Jennie Robinson, Huntsville City Council; board chair Steve Hettinger and President/CEO Sarah Savage, Leadership Huntsville/Madison County.

* Elected officials — State Sen. Mike Ball, Congressman Mo Brooks, Madison Mayor Paul Finley, Bill Holtzclaw, Mary Scott Hunter, State Sen. Steve Livingston, Phil Riddick, Phil Williams.

* Military — Joe Fitzgerald, U.S. Army; Garrison Commander Col. Thomas P. Holliday Jr.; former garrison commander William Marks; Col. John Olshefski; Maj. Gen. L. Neil Thurgood, U.S. Army; Lt. Col. Troy Trulock.

* Civic leaders — Executive Director Deborah Barnhart, U.S. Space & Rocket Center; Manna House Director Fran Fluhler.

* Clergy — Associate Pastor Mac Buttram, Trinity United Methodist Church; Senior Pastor Travis Collins, First Baptist Church Huntsville; Missions Minister Mike Pearce, First Baptist.
