Rocky Smith Exits James Clemens
MADISON- James Clemens assistant principal and athletic director Rocky Smith has been approved to become the new school principal at Hartselle Junior High. He leaves James Clemens after four years.
“It’s a really bittersweet moment for me to leave Madison City Schools and James Clemens High as I’m very thankful to have worked with so many great people,” said Smith. “It’s difficult to leave as we have become like a family as Dr. Clayton hired me and I will be forever grateful.”
The 42-year old grew up just outside Montgomery where he graduated from Edgewood Academy and soon earned a degree in business administration at Troy and later earning a masters degree from Auburn-Montgomery in education.
Smith is an avid outdoorsman and frequently posts his outdoor escapades on his Facebook page. He’s also proud of his legacy he’s leaving behind with the athletic programs at James Clemens. He implemented the use of sports psychologists for coach and player development and established innovative incentive programs to increase athletic attendance and fan interaction at sporting events.
“I spent a lot of time caring for the students who need the help the most,” said Smith. “Hartselle Schools is one of the few areas that would take anyone away from Madison. This is a great fit for my family and career.”
As a former coach, Smith was chosen the Class 3A Baseball Coach of the Year in 2008 for his work at LAMP High school of Montgomery.
