‘Teacher of the Year’ at West Madison goes to Bryan

MADISON – The faculty and staff at West Madison Elementary School has voted for Catherine Bryan as 2019 “Teacher of the Year.”

Bryan is a native of Tullahoma, Tenn. and moved to Huntsville in 2004 to attend college.

“I quickly made (the Huntsville/Madison area) my permanent residence after falling in love with the city. Tullahoma is never far from my heart. I return there often to visit my family,” she said in her biographical information on West Madison’s website. (wmes.madisoncity.k12.al.us)

At West Madison, Bryan works as a resource teacher.

Bryan earned an associate’s degree at Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma in 2004. She received a bachelor’s degree at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2006. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree at the University of West Alabama in Livingston.

In free time, Bryan volunteers at Huntsville Animal Shelter. “I love to run and have completed both a marathon and a 5K. I enjoy doing anything outdoors: triathlons, duathlons, kayaking, swimming, hiking and playing any kind of sport,” she said.

Bryan’s other hobbies and interests include going to the gym, cooking, gardening, reading, listening to XM radio and cheering on her favorite team, the Vanderbilt Commodores.

West Madison’s administrative staff includes Dr. Daphne Jah as Principal, Kathy Miller as Assistant Principal and Stephanie Allen as Counselor.

Each year, co-workers nominate and vote for a colleague as Teacher of the Year and Staff Member of the Year at each school in the Madison City Schools district. The Central Office staff and Transportation Department employees also select a Staff Member of the Year.

Each recipient of the award for Teacher of the Year and Staff Member of the Year receives a $500 award.
