Kids can ‘Summer Splash’ at Heritage Church’s VBS

MADISON – Children can experience positive messaged about the Bible, and end each evening with a splash at Vacation Bible School or VBS at Heritage Church.

Their “Summer Splash” will involve three nights of fun, friends and faith on July 15-17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The church’s address is 29768 Huntsville-Brownsferry Road in Madison.

VBS is free at Heritage Church. The sessions are open to children who are three years old through fifth-grade students. All children must be potty-trained. Children do not have to attend Heritage to go to VBS.

“Our theme is called ‘Power Up’ from Orange curriculum. It’s about living a life of power. Yes, kids have power, too,” Rev. Suzanne Katschke said. She and Rev. Michael Katschke are co-pastors at Heritage Church.

“The theme utilizes something children can relate to — video games. All activities will be hands-on and interactive,” Suzanne Katschke said. “Children will rotate from station to station to include music, crafts, snacks, water fun and Bible story.”

In addition, the VBS students will have a mission partner, the North Alabama Foster Closet. “The kids will have a competition to see which group can bring in the most clothing to support local foster children,” Katschke said.

Every night ends with a splash. On July 15, VBS students will engage in water relay games. The next day, the children will have access to water hoses and water balloons for drenching fun. On July 17, an enormous water slide will offer slip-and-slide excitement for the children.

“The kids will be paint positive messages on rocks to empower others, make switch-plate covers to remind them of the power they possess and make a video-game controller with a special saying to remember their experience at VBS,” Katschke said.

“VBS speaks to a child’s need to be loved and to love others. Kids make memories at VBS that last a lifetime,” she said. ‘

“To me, it’s almost a rite of passage. I didn’t get to experience it growing up as I was not raised in church, but what an incredible gift for a child to have fun while being reminded of their inherent worth and potential,” Katschke said. “Oh … and food, fun and friends. What more could a kid want?”

“Our theme changes every year, but we wrap our entire VBS around a water theme simply because kids love it,” she said. All children will need to bring a towel and prepare to get wet at the end of each night.
