The Dance Company collects many awards this summer

MADISON – From California to South Carolina, students at The Dance Company have claimed a bundle of awards during summer competitions.

During the week of June 27, the Madison dancers entered DMI Nationals 2019 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. “It was a great week,” co-owner Julie George said. “Dedication, perseverance, tenacity, beautiful … all words we would use to describe the wonderful human beings we have spent this week with in Myrtle Beach.”

Co-owner Beth Cannon listed the many awards received at DMI Nationals:

* “Mathematics” group — High first. Runner-up to overall high score for Senior Group Contemporary division. Earned “Dance Again” award.

* “Your Day Will Come” — High first. Runner-up to high score in Teen Production Contemporary division.

* “Somebody to Love” — First place. Overall runner-up in Senior Production Musical Theatre.

* “Alexa” — High first. High score for Teen Duo/Trio Hip Hop.

* “Save Myself” — High first. Overall runner-up for Senior Group Lyrical.

* “Pon De Bandanna” — High first. Overall runner-up for Senior Line Hip Hop.

* “Real Love” — High first.

* “Crazy” — First place.

* “A Long Way Home” — First place.

* “Proud Mary” — First place.

* “Heartless” — High first.

* “Love Is a Battlefield” — First place.

* “Waves” — High first place.

* “Believe” — First place.

Soloists with honors were Isaac Poteete, fifth runner-up, Teen Mr.; Christian Nesselrotte, fourth runner-up, Mr. Senior; and Brady Percy and Kaylee Kendrick, city scholarship.

In addition, The Dance Company participated in Hollywood Dance Jamz Nationals in Burbank, Calif. during the week of July 1. Solo award winners were Makenzie McGill, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” Platinum Award; and Eden Joy Craighead, “Sparrow,” “That’s My Jam” award, third place overall junior solo.

Intermediate winners were Kate Johnson, “Riverside,” platinum, tenth place overall intermediate; Jadyn Lafayette, “Truth Untold,” high gold; Ava Baker, “Kill the Lights, That’s My Jam,” second place overall, teen solo; Samantha Baker, “All the Love You Left Me,” high gold; Isaac Poteete, “Deep Water,” high gold; Briley Blomeley, “Nowhere,” platinum, fourth place overall, teen solo; and Christian Nesselrotte and Lija Abele, platinum award.

In trio awards, award-winners were “At Last” with Eden Joy Craighead, Kate Johnson and Jadyn LaFayette, platinum; and “Alexa,” platinum award, “Most Entertaining Award.”

Other honors went to Makenzie McGill, “I Am The Jam Scholarship”; Jadyn LaFayette and Christian Nesselrotte, City Scholarship; and Eden Joy, DJ Company as convention assistant.
