Champy’s of Madison opens, holds “Name that Chicken!” contest
MADISON – Great news! Champy’s of Madison is now open. The Chattanooga-based restaurant famous for their fried chicken opened their Madison location last week.
The new restaurant is housed at the old Bison’s Cafe location, 8020 Madison Blvd, next to the Publix Shopping Center.
The restaurant has spent the last few months remodeling the location to match their unique Champy’s style – which includes a giant metal rooster in front of the building. To have a little fun, a “Name that Chicken!” contest was held and the winning entry was announced Tuesday. People voted by liking their favorite name.
“Lots of great suggestions, but two really stood out and one emerged victorious,” stated a post in the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“Rocky the Rooster”, submitted by Cole Barron, earned the second place entry with 54 likes.
The winner was “Cluck Norris”, submitted by Trish Azlin, with 101 likes.
Both Azlin and Barron received a prize package for their entries.
In addition to the new Madison location, there are Champy’s in Chattanooga, TN, Daphne, AL., Muscle Shoals, AL, Alabaster, AL, Athens, GA and Murfreesboro, TN.
The restaurant is also known for their tamales, fried green tomatoes, red beans and homemade gumbo.
Champy’s Famous Fried Chicken was founded in Chattanooga in 2009. Their famous fried chicken is made from an old family recipe from “Down in the Delta” that is more than 40 years old.
