Brooks to retire as WEDC director, successor search begins

MADISON COUNTY – The Women’s Economic Development Council Foundation will search for a new person to serve as Executive Director.

Beth Brooks, the current executive director, has announced that she will retire from the position as of Dec. 31, 2019. After leaving this work, Brooks plans to spend more time with her family and enjoy more opportunities in her personal life.

“Beth is passionate about the Huntsville community and the many ways its citizens serve each other,” Joni Green said. Green serves as President of the council foundation’s board.

Thirty-six years ago, Brooks moved from the southwestern United States to the Huntsville area. She was a charter member of the Women’s Economic Development Council Foundation.

“Beth joined the WEDC Foundation Board of Directors in 2013 and served in continuously more responsible volunteer leadership roles through board president and was ultimately hired as the Executive Director in January 2016,” Green said.

The council foundation also has announced its launch of a competitive search for Brooks’ successor. Leaders anticipate finding an executive director by early 2020.

The role of the Women’s Economic Development Council is to champion women as leaders in business and the community. These influential women forge relationships and influence economic success of their companies. The council provides opportunities to women for governance and economic development by education, mentorship and strategic connections.

Formed in 1998, the WEDC Foundation is a non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve self-sufficiency. The foundation helps them reach economic independence by providing mentors, professional networking, development programs and flexible financial assistance.

The council’s next monthly meeting for leadership training will be held Sept. 12. Participants will gather from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jackson Center, 6001 Moquin Drive in Huntsville. Guests will enjoy a buffet lunch and should arrive by 11:15 a.m.
