Hispanic Heritage Celebration set for Oct. 26 at library

MADISON – The Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Oct. 26 will honor Hispanic and Latino Americans with a program of activities, including live demonstrations in the fine arts.

Madison Public Library, 142 Plaza Blvd will host the event in the auditorium from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is free for the public.

The local celebration coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Instead of starting on the first day of a month, Hispanic Heritage Month starts in the middle of the month because Sept. 15 marks the day for independence for five countries in Latin America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Rosie’s International Services Inc., a local non-profit 501(c)3 organization, is sponsoring the event and observance.

Students in Madison City Schools and other local campuses have designed art displays specifically for the Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Age-appropriate activities will entertain the youngsters at the event. The celebration is intended for children who are three years old and older.

Music by DJ Pat with Disc Jockey Services will keep the mood upbeat and guests in good spirits. Local dancers will demonstrate the steps for salsa dancing and the moves with Zumba. Percussionists with ArtForms Inc. will excite the partygoers with a drumming exhibition.

A contest will decide the person that is dressed in the best traditional Hispanic attire. Guests can enjoy refreshments at the celebration.

Military soldiers and families will receive special recognition with various presentations and special music. In honoring military families, Rosie’s International Services will give away one ticket to Homewood Suites for a complimentary weekend night stay and full breakfast buffet.

Rosie’s International Service, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c) tax-exempt organization committed to helping disadvantaged youth in the Madison County area.
