Volunteers needed for “Veteran’s Grave Marker Clean Up Day” Nov. 9 at Madison City Cemetery

MADISON – Veteran’s Day is right around the corner, and this Saturday an event is being held to honor the brave men and women who have served to keep our nation free. On Saturday, Nov 9, at 11 a.m. the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 229 is hosting a “Veteran’s Grave Marker Clean Up Day” at the Madison City Cemetery on the South Side of Mill Rd.

All supplies will be provided and everyone young and old is invited.  Organizer Linda Silvernail said Big Shiloh Baptist Church at 133 Maple St. in Madison has graciously agreed to provide parking for the event.

Silvernail said the project is keeping with the Auxiliary’s mission: “In the spirit of service, not self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.”

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 229 meets at 6:00 pm on the second Thursday of the month at the Lunar Lodge on Eastview Dr. in Madison. Membership is open to veterans, their spouses and immediate family.
