Former state senator Bill Holtzclaw honored with city coin presentation

MADISON – Former state senator and Madison councilman Bill Holtzclaw was honored last night for his service to the citizens of Madison. The city council presented Holtzclaw with a city coin to open the regular city council meeting.

Since November 2018, the mayor and city council members have taken turns awarding a city coin each month to honor citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the city.

Holtzclaw currently serves as the Chief Programs Officer at Still Serving Veterans. He is a retired US Marine, having served on active duty from 1983 to 2003.  He served on the Madison City Council from 2008 to 2010 representing District 7, and as a Alabama State Senator from 2010 to 2018.

“We want to honor him for the dedication he has shown in serving the Madison community,” said District 7 city councilman John Seifert during the presentation. “He has also been a trustee at Asbury United Methodist Church, served on the Semper Fi Community Task Force and Vets with Vettes. We are very thankful for all he has done and continues to do.”

Holtzclaw said he is very appreciative to the city council and the work they do to recognize people in Madison who are involved in the community.

The Holtzclaw family moved to Madison in 1999. He and his wife Pam have two daughters; Abby and Sydney, who are Bob Jones graduates. He also has two grandsons.

Holtzclaw retired in 2003 after 20 years of active duty service. As an enlisted Marine he served two combat tours: In 1991 during Operation Desert Storm and in 1992 – 1993 during Operation Restore Hope, in Mogadishu, Somalia.
