Master Gardeners to host Lunch ‘n’ Learn Workshops

MADISON – If the ‘winter blues’ have gotten you down, Master Gardeners of North Alabama suggests taking some time at lunch ‘to bask in the glow of garden education.’

The Master Gardeners will present “Lunch ‘n’ Learn Workshops” covering various garden themes. The workshops on Tuesdays in February and the first week of March will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dublin Park, 8324 Old Madison Pike in Madison.

Master Gardeners of North Alabama Inc. and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System are presenting the Lunch ‘n’ Learn workshops.

“Participants are free to bring lunch and delight in learning new facts about gardening. They can know that spring planting is just around the corner,” gardener spokesperson Nareatha Studdard said.

On Feb. 11, Master Gardeners Jennifer Johnson, Janet Boothe and Melissa Kirkindall will explain “Planting for Pollinators.” These gardening techniques will help to attract the all-important bees and other insects that pollinate. Bright and aromatic plants can coax the insects to visit.

“Daphne Moland with Wheeler Wildlife Refuge will lead a study on “Birds, Bats & Bees” on Feb. 18. Dan Porch, who works as Extension Agent in Blount County, will discuss “Everything Tomatoes” on Feb. 25. “Seed Starting, Saving & Viability” will introduce options for the home gardener on March 3 with Charlotte Haygood with the Sand Mountain Seedbank.

“The workshops are free, but seating is limited so register online today for one or more sessions at mginfo.org/workshops.

Individuals without internet service can call 256-430-0555 or email workshopregistrar@mginfo.org.

Master Gardeners of North Alabama Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization supported and funded by membership dues, donations and fundraising efforts. The group is an active member of the Alabama Master Gardener Association and a fully qualified 501(c)3 non-profit organization.,
