Mayor Finley will celebrate city’s accomplishments, detail plans for the future on Friday

MADISON – Madison Mayor Paul Finley will celebrate the many accomplishments of the city in 2019 and look ahead to plans and goals for 2020 in his State of the City Address this Friday.

Connect 2020 is here, which includes the annual State of the City Address and gala event celebrating the past year and future of Madison. It will be held Jan. 31 in the Davidson Center at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

Presented this year by Facebook and hosted by the Madison Chamber of Commerce, the event will start at 6:30 p.m.

“Connect 2020 celebrates the connections between the City of Madison, regional governments, businesses and residents that make Madison great,” said Madison Chamber of Commerce Events & Marketing Coordinator Felecia Rodgers.

Rodgers said part of the focus on the night’s festivities will be to spotlight STEM within the local schools. Lockheed Martin will sponsorship of the Mayor’s Scholarship Fund, which focuses on encouraging local youth to study and pursue STEM careers. “This generous sponsorship shows a true commitment to our community and its continued tradition of STEM excellence,” she said.

The evening begins with cocktails at 6:30 p.m., featuring live music from Winslow Davis.  A formal dinner and the program will begin at 7 p.m.

The James Clemens Chamber Choir will perform the national anthem, while Bob Jones High School Air Force JROTC Color Guard present our Nation’s colors.

John Malone, Market President at iHeartMedia, Tuscaloosa, will be the Emcee for the evening.
