Football Legend Steve Spurrier To Speak To Fellowship Of Christian Athletes

HUNTSVILLE- The man with one of the greatest nicknames in all of sports- Head Ball Coach- is making a stop in North Alabama. Longtime football coach Steve Spurrier will be the special guest speaker at the Northeast Alabama Home Team Celebration and Fundraising Dinner as part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) on Tuesday, April 7 beginning at 6:15 p.m. in the South Hall of the Von Braun Center.

The one time head coach at Florida, South Carolina and Duke, as well as, the NFL’s Washington Redskins and two additional professional league teams, Tampa Bay Bandits (USFL) and Orlando Apollos (AAF), will bring his extraordinary storied sports history to the Rocket City where he’s expected to speak of how being an influence for many others can happen through athletics.

The nearly 75-year old Spurrier was born in Miami Beach, but grew up in Johnson City, Tenn. and soon became an All-American and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback for the Florida Gators. He played in 10 NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before he retired and ventured into coaching. His team at Florida won the 1996 National Championship.

In 2016, the University of Florida officially renamed the Gator’s home field Steve Spurrier-Florida Field.

Spurrier’s always dynamic personality can sometimes be dry in nature, but is straightforwardness in facing the media and fans alike has made him a true favorite of any connection to college football throughout the country. Media outlets love when the Head Ball Coach is available for interviews or some chitchat as his dry humor and enormous detail to experiences formulated with fun facts about his history makes for an interesting conversation.

Tickets to the April 7 event can be purchased as an individual or through a $1,000 VIP Sponsor in which you receive eight (8) tickets for the evening’s ceremonies, one photo with Spurrier, one piece of autographed memorabilia along with a slide show recognition and priority seating. Dress is business casual.

Ticket purchases need to be handled by March 26. Visit the FCA website for details on ticket purchases and sponsorships. www.northalabamafca.org.
