Longtime Bob Jones band director Doyle Thornton passes away

Longtime Bob Jones High School band director Doyle Thornton passed away over the weekend.

Thornton retired from teaching in 2015 after 27 years at Bob Jones. He left behind a strong legacy at Bob Jones and in Madison. The current head band directors at James Clemens and Bob Jones once served as Thornton’s assistants. In 2017, he was inducted into the BJHS Hall of Fame. The band’s “Doyle Thornton Award” is given each year to seniors who have completed 7 or 8 semesters in the program.

The Madison Record will have more soon about Mr. Thornton’s legacy at Bob Jones.
