Madison Election Results

MADISON – Madison election results are in. Madison Mayor Paul Finley was reelected to his third term Tuesday, defeating challenger Marc Highsmith. Finley collected 59.2% of the vote (5314) over Highsmith’s 40.3% (3623).

Maura Wroblewski successfully won reelection to the District 1 city council position against challenger James Ross. This is the second time Wroblewski and Ross have run against each other. Wroblewski narrowly defeated Ross four years ago to win her first term in office.

Wroblewski had 807 votes (64.5%) over Ross’ 428 (34.2%).

In District 2, Madison City Council president Steve Smith will head into a runoff with challenger Connie Spears. Spears, who is a former Madison City Schools Board of Education member, led a three-way race with Joe Gaines placing third. The runoff will be held Oct. 6.

There were 720 votes cast for Spears, who captured 38.1% of the total vote. Smith followed with 32.6% (615 votes). Gaines had 539 votes for 28.5% of the vote.

Teddy Powell was reelected to a second term in District 3. He defeated his challenger Brian Goodwin, 489 (54%) to 402 (44.4%) votes.

In District 4, Gregg Shaw narrowly won reelection Tuesday for a second term on the city council. He defeated challenger Jocelyn Broer. Shaw had 655 votes (51.4%) over Broer’s 607 (47.6%).

Madison City Schools Board of Education member and former school board president Ranae Bartlett easily won the District 5 city council seat. She was running for the position left vacant by long-term councilman Tommy Overcash, who decided not to run for reelection.

Bartlett defeated Eric Clark for the post. Bartlett collected 797 votes (64.1%) to Clark’s 416 (33.5%).

In District 6, incumbent Gerald Clark was defeated by challenger Karen Denzine. Denzine claimed 626 votes (53.6%) to Clark’s 513 (43.9%).

John Seifert did not have an opponent in District 7 and will serve a another term.
