MCS says schools will return to daily in-person instruction on Tuesday

MADISON – Students who chose school-based learning through Madison City Schools will begin attending classes every day on Tuesday, Jan. 19. All schools are out Monday for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

MCS Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols said the hybrid schedule schools have operated under since returning from the Christmas break last week will end at the end of this week. Students were separated into two groups and taught through a combination of in-person and virtual classes to ensure social distancing.

“After reviewing our positive tests rates and quarantining data during our hybrid period, I feel that allowing our school-based learners back in our schools is manageable,” Nichols said. “It must be emphasized that masks, social distancing and other safety protocols will continue to be followed as outlined in our Madison City Schools ‘Return to School Plan’.”

Nichols said he will continue to monitor positive cases and quarantines in our schools. “I know all of this has been a hardship for many of you and your students. Our teachers and staff are certainly feeling the strain of this unprecedented year, but they are committed to providing our students the highest quality of education,” he added.
