American Legion Auxiliary’s new officers anticipate new year, new members

MADISON – Unit 229 Auxiliary, affiliated with American Legion, Post 229 in Madison recently conducted officer installation for the 2021-2022 membership year.

Former Department of Alabama President Vickie Mills installed officers for Unit 229, American Legion Auxiliary in Madison. Officers of the local Auxiliary are President Jean Downs, Vice President/Secretary Terry Frakes and Treasurer Pam Rogers.

Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary is open to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses and direct and adopted female descendants of American Legion members. In addition, others who qualify are grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who honorably served the United States.

“Women who, of their own right, also are eligible for membership in the American Legion and spouses of female veterans can join the Auxiliary,” Downs said.

The Auxiliary meets monthly on second Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., followed by social time at 6:30 p.m. Meetings usually are held at Lunar Lodge on Eastview Drive in Madison. “Occasionally, we change the location,” Downs said.
