United Way Director of Resource Development awarded 2021 Community Servant of the Year

MADISON – Claudia Bucher, Director of Resource Development of United Way of Madison County, was awarded the Madison Chamber of Commerce’s 2021 Community Servant of the Year Award. In 2020, the United Way celebrated Cathy Miller, Community Impact Director, who was chosen as the recipient of the same award.

“United Way of Madison County is proud that two of our team members have received this prestigious award back-to-back. It is a testament to, not only their individual excellence, but to the organization they both serve,” said Clay Vandiver, President & CEO United Way of Madison County.

Vandiver said Claudia has worked tirelessly for nonprofits in our community for 32 years, 22 of those years have been with United Way. “She has been dedicated to caring for this community her entire career and displays a positive outlook every day, full of energy and can-do attitude. Claudia’s focus is to educate and inspire individuals and companies to support the community through United Way with their time and/or money to help local individuals in need (children all the way to senior citizens). This model is the core mission of our United Way organization and has been for over 78 years in this community,” he added.

As the pandemic spread through our community over the past twelve months, the United Way of Madison County and its partner agencies have experience tremendous amount of stress to deliver much needed help and resources to those in need, Vandiver said. To keep operating, the agencies needed a safe and sanitary work environment for both their employees as well as their clients. Claudia saw the unique situation and found an innovative solution. She located a supplier from outside the state of Alabama who had critical sanitizing products and personal safety items. She coordinated large deliveries of these much-needed products to the 27 United Way partner agencies.

“Because of her heroic efforts, the Partner Agencies were able to keep their doors open and continue to help tens of thousands of individuals in need. The grit and determination shown by Claudia to find a solution under one the most stressful situations our world has seen in decades, is a testament on why the Madison Chamber of Commerce chose such a worthy recipient for their 2021 Community Servant of the Year,” Vandiver said. “As we celebrate with Claudia and admire her extraordinary accomplishments, the work she has contributed to remains central.”
