Madison students earn College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships
MADISON – National Merit Scholarship Corporation has released the latest recipients of College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships. James Clemens, Bob Jones and Sparkman high schools are well represented.
The announcement from National Merit Scholarship Corporation is the third release in 2022 for National Merit Scholars. The corporation will name additional students with college-sponsored awards on July 11. This year, about 7,500 academic champions will have won approximately $28 million.
These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
* Om Nitin Badhe, James Clemens – University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship. UT Dallas’ 30,000 students represent 100-plus countries. Its eight schools offer more than 140 academic programs. Badhe will pursue a career in computer science.
* Aaron J. Bright, James Clemens — University of North Texas Scholarship. UNT in Denton offers 96 bachelor’s, 126 master’s and 47 doctorate’s degrees. The university has an accomplished faculty and nationally recognized programs for its 27,000-plus students. Bright’s probable career field is music composition.
* Emma-Claire Foster, Sparkman High School — Auburn University Scholarship. Auburn is a state-supported, residential land-grant institution with 135-plus undergraduate study options and 65-plus areas for graduate study. Foster intends to study neonatology.
* Benjamin J. Kosan, Bob Jones — Purdue University Scholarship. Purdue, a state-assisted university system, has five campuses. Its West Lafayette campus has more than 34,000 students. Kosan will major in engineering.
* Everett N. Krome, Bob Jones — Auburn University Scholarship. A state-supported school, Auburn offers degrees in agriculture, architecture, fine arts, business, education, engineering, human services, pharmacy and veterinary medicine. Krome wants a career in sports/entertainment law.
* Diane D. Pham, Bob Jones — Auburn University Scholarship. Auburn offers undergraduate study in more than 135 areas and graduate study in more 65 areas. Pham will have a career in engineering.
* Kaija K. Sorensen, James Clemens — Brigham Young University Scholarship. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints sponsors this school in Provo, Utah. Its student body of 25,000 grew up in all U.S. states and 60-plus foreign countries. Sorensen’s career choice is computer science.
* Megan E. Stewart, Sparkman — University of Alabama Scholarship. Alabama provides more than 150 undergraduate and 85 graduate majors in its divisions. The school’s 18,000 students come from U.S. states and 60 foreign countries. Stewart will study computer engineering.
* Brandon R. Todd, Bob Jones — Auburn University Scholarship. Auburn offers undergraduate study in more than 135 areas and graduate study in more 65 areas. Todd plans to establish a career in cardiology.
* Sarah K. Vaughan, James Clemens — University of Alabama at Birmingham or UAB Scholarship. UAB, an urban research university, maintains an academic health center with enrollment around 16,000 students. UAB is the state’s only university to rank as “Research University I” in Carnegie Foundation’s classifications. UAB’s rich mix of academics and sports gives students a wide array of opportunities. Vaughan will study for a career in medicine.
