Women in Tech // HSV organization to host M-POWER Event

MADISON – The Women in Tech // HSV organization will present the “M-POWER Event” for the launch of their mentoring program.

The Invention to Innovation Center or I2C at the University of Alabama in Huntsville will host the M-POWER Event on June 22 at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all women.

“The lineup will feature amazing speakers, mentor speed dating, networking opportunities and great food,” Rigved P. Joshi said. He serves as I2C Director at UAH.

Check-in and networking will open the event at 5:30 p.m. Panel discussion will start at 6 p.m. Program launch for M-POWER mentoring is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. The session will offer mentor speed dating, networking and wrap-up at 6:45 p.m.

Panel speakers will include Dr. Yudi Ross, Founder of “Creating a Seat”; Rashida Wilson, Director of Experiential Learning Opportunities at Alabama A&M University; and moderator Dr. Kuan Collins, Innovation Factory Director for SAIC.

“The key topic of discussion will be ‘Imposter Syndrome: Turn Your Imposter Syndrome Into a Champion Mindset,’” Joshi said. The participants will review the definition of imposter syndrome, people influenced by the scenario and common thoughts about the behavior.

“We’ll look at ways that imposter syndrome can affect people’s careers, especially by procrastination and perfectionism. Building a champion mindset needs action . . . in three areas: awareness, acceptance and new stories/beliefs,” Joshi said. “We’ll discuss ‘kicking imposter syndrome to the curb.’”

Guests must RSVP for the event. Limited seating will be available. Guests will receive food and drinks during the event. IDs are required for wine and beer.

“Anyone interested in being a WIT // HSV mentor can sign up today,” Joshi said. Email wit-hsv@uah.edu.
