Brenton Nash returns home to become Sparkman’s head director of bands

The Sparkman High School band announced Tuesday their new head director of bands is Madison native Brenton Nash.

The announcement said Nash, a graduate of Bob Jones High School, is extremely excited to come home and take over the outstanding program at Sparkman. He is the son of former Discovery Middle School band director Johnny Nash and Barbara Nash.

Nash comes to Sparkman after wrapping up three years as the head band director at Winfield City High School in Winfield, AL. Before that, he served as the assistant band director and choir director at Oak Mountain Middle School after graduating with a degree in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Alabama.

During his time at the University of Alabama, he played trombone in various musical ensembles.  He participated in the Million Dollar Band, the UA Trombone Choir, the Jazz Ensemble, and various concert ensembles.  Nash also served as the state Secretary and Treasurer for the collegiate division of the Alabama Music Educator’s Association.  He is also a proud member of the Omicron Phi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America.

While in college, Nash was involved with Drum Corps International.  In 2015, he marched baritone with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Denver, Colorado.  The Blue Knights had a historic season that year, finishing 6th place which was the highest placement in corps history.

In 2016, he marched euphonium with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from Canton, Ohio for his age-out season.  That summer, the Bluecoats won their first DCI World Championship, also winning the Donald Angelica General Effect Caption Award.  Additionally, Nash was awarded Brass Rookie of the Year by the Bluecoats Brass Staff.

After aging out, Nash was on staff with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps during the summer of 2017, serving as the assistant visual caption head as well as a low brass tech for the corps.

Nash is expected to meet with the full marching band for the first time on June 16.
