Visa inducts Eddie Robinson into Black Scholars and Jobs

MADISON – Eddie Robinson of Madison has been named to Visa Black Scholars and Jobs Program.

This distinction honors incoming freshmen with college scholarship assistance for up to four years, one-on-one mentorship with Visa team members and ongoing professional development.

Since launching in August 2021, the Visa Black Scholars and Jobs Program has supported 126 students as part of the company’s five-year, $10-million investment in line with Visa’s diversity efforts to drive initiatives for lasting, positive change.

After graduation, the scholars can pursue internships with Visa and consider full-time jobs.

“It has been inspiring to see the positive effects that the Visa program has had on our scholars and company,” Michelle Gethers said. Gethers works as Visa’s Chief Diversity Officer and Head of Corporate Responsibility.

“In addition to scholarship assistance, scholars are offered opportunities to strengthen their educational and professional development,” Gethers said. “The Black Scholars program is one of Visa’s many commitments to build our inclusive culture and purpose-driven change for generations to come.”

With the program, Visa Black Scholars can access ‘C-suite’ executives (or the most important and influential individuals within a company. ‘C’ denotes high-level jobs that start with the letter “C,” such as CEO and Chief Operations Officer). The scholars also can interact with industry leaders and Visa staff to expand networks and professional growth.

“At Visa, we foster a people-centric culture of continuous growth, learning and development,” Kelly Mahon Tullier said. Tullier is Vice Chair, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer. “It has been rewarding to see our scholars grow. Equally important are lessons they have taught us.”

This summer, the Visa scholars will intern in Visa offices across the United States. They will support all areas of the business — from software engineering and product development, to marketing and finance.

Because of the U.S. program’s success, Visa has expanded to develop similar programs for diverse students in the United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil and South Africa.

Visa is a world leader in digital payments. Their mission is to connect the world through the most innovative, reliable and secure payment network – enabling individuals, businesses and economies to thrive.
