Take a break: Madison, Triana libraries’ sessions calm holiday stress
MADISON, TRIANA – To take a break from the holiday hustle, the libraries in Madison and Triana will continue their interesting and stressless sessions throughout the busy, year-end season.
Triana Public Library has scheduled an adult craft to make ‘mini-book ornaments’ on Nov. 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. The library staff welcomes teenagers and adults for this casual craft time.
Crafters can decide on books that they have read in 2023 or a group of favorite books. This class is geared towards adults and older teens.
Triana’s staff will email participants and ask for a book list before the event so they can have supplies ready for the sessions. Participants should register with an active email address (check it for accuracy). To register, visit hmcpl.org/node/2390.

A session that targets students, Operation Imagination will be offered Nov. 28 and Dec. 5 at 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Librarians have designed creative activities for school-age students, but all ages are welcome.
Just for fun, Triana will sponsor Paint Night on Dec. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. The class will paint a whimsical tree. To register, visit hmcpl.org/node/2603.

In addition, Madison Public Library will maintain its interesting schedule of relaxed programs during the holidays.
The “Mini-Trainer Club” will entertain five- through eight-year-olds interested in the Pokémon series. At monthly club meetings, librarians will prepare various projects. The club will meet on Nov. 22 from 3 to 4 p.m.
The club will meet on one Wednesday monthly in Madison’s Program Room. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants. Complete a form for each child who will attend. For registration procedures, call 256-461-0046.
Baby Storytime is a recurring gathering that will entertain infants through 18-month-olds. The educational, interactive stories will engage the children, along with their parents or caregivers. The next storytime is scheduled for Nov. 27 from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
The Cross Stitch Club on Nov. 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. will allow individuals to pursue the craft while relaxing with other stitchers. This program is recommended for anyone at least 19 years old.
Have you never tried cross stitch before? No problem. The library staff will teach novices. Beginners will receive patterns and materials. No registration is required. For questions, email Nora at nbahr@hmcpl.org.
The Teen Tabletop Tuesday group will meet on Nov. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Young Adult Room. These tabletop games can encourage socialization, logical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and more benefits. Any teenager is invited to join Mr. Kristopher each Tuesday for a new round of games.
The teens should feel free to discuss all topics about gaming with him. Some of his favorite tabletop games include Second Chance, Railroad Ink, Overboss, Tumbletown and Project L. He also enjoys video games and RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons and Hackmaster.
Intended for eight- through 13-year-olds, Youth Sewing will meet on Nov. 28 and 29 from 4 to 5 p.m. The Sewing Club meets monthly to train children about the basics of hand and machine sewing. Participants can choose from numerous sewing projects for all skill levels. They build skills at their own pace with the assistance of the library’s experienced instructors.
