The Salvation Army short of reaching fundraising goal, seeks community support

HUNTSVILLE – With only six days remaining until Christmas, The Salvation Army is asking for the community’s support to help meet its fundraising goal of $150,000 for the 2023 Red Kettle Campaign. “We are $20,000 short of that goal” states Major Richard Watts, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army. The annual campaign is the organization’s primary fundraiser, which provides year-round assistance to community members experiencing unforeseen crises or financial hardship.

“This year has been challenging for many individuals and families in our community as the cost of living has outpaced wages,” said Major Watts. “We have seen a sharp increase in requests for food, rent, and utilities assistance.”

The organization served over 80,000 clients last year, helping individuals and families to remain in their homes, find safe shelter, feed their families, and afford essential utilities. “I am optimistic our community will continue to donate generously in the remaining days to support our mission to serve our neighbors when they need it most. Every contribution, regardless of size, has the potential to transform a life.”

Although The Salvation Army will have one less day to fundraise using Red Kettles, as Christmas Eve falls on Sunday, online giving is available 24 hours a day at www.salvationarmyalm.org/huntsville Also, contributions may be mailed or dropped off at 2114 Oakwood Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35810.

“The Salvation Army is extremely grateful for the support of our community,” said Major Watts. “Every dollar raised stays local to provide meals to families in need, keep the power on for seniors struggling to pay utility bills, and offer a pathway to stability and hope for struggling individuals throughout the year.”
