Dr. Nichols releases video message addressing parents’ concerns over school threats

MADISON – Amid threats on social media that have thrown some area schools, including Sparkman High School, into lockdown and in the wake of a deadly school shooting in Georgia, Madison City Schools Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols released a video stating that officials do not believe Madison city schools are in danger from these threats at this time. Click here for the video.

“We’ve had a series of social media things that have gone on, but none of them have been substantiated toward Madison city schools. In fact, many of them are in other districts and other states,” said Nichols. “But we still investigate them.”

He also outlined how the district is prepared to respond to a real active shooter situation, “If we have the slightest inclination that there is a threat, first of all, we would lockdown a school. We would bring all hands on deck to that school and other schools around us to lockdown. We would also alert you, as parents and staff. We have not had a threat like that,’” he said.

He said the schools have already been tightening security through more security personnel and SROs.

He advises that if anyone does have concerns of a threat to Madison City Schools to contact their school administrator or SRO and to utilize their Text to Protect program and contact them by phone at 256-604-2345 or email at texttoprotect@madisonal.gov.
