Immaculately landscaped sites earn Beautification Awards

MADISON – Rigorous judging of nominated properties led to the decisions for sites to receive a 2024 Madison Beautification Award.

Each year, Madison Beautification and Tree Board accepts nominations for attractive, immaculately maintained sites at any commercial, business or public property (including government buildings) within the city limits of Madison.

Residents can nominate the public areas of apartment complexes, condominiums, townhome developments, residential subdivisions, homeowner associations, schools, hospitals and churches. Private residences are not eligible. (Facebook/Madison Beautification and Tree Board)

Landscape contractors must have required business licenses, including a city business license to maintain the property and a state license to install trees and shrubs.

After judging is complete, the board honors the winners with a luncheon. A Beautification Award sign is placed at entrances of winning properties.

The judging process determines the properties that deserve a rating of “Excellent.”

Beautification board members congratulated the property owners and landscaping companies that received awards:

* Small campus – Ted’s Bar-B-Q, Woodland Homes (Quality Creative Landscaping) and The Catbird Seat Garden Center.

* Large campus — Madison Hospital Healing Garden and Madison Golf Center.

* Homeowners Associations — Heritage Provence (Alabama Lawn Masters); Hunington Chase (Kendall Outdoors) for two awards; and Clear Springs.

* Apartments — Somerset of Madison (Acre Group LLC); Colonial Grand on Madison Boulevard; and Colonial Grand on Hughes Road.

In addition, Beautification Board judges determine the sites that qualify for “Best in Show.” Best in Show winners represent the outstanding efforts of non-residential property owners for businesses, churches, schools and homeowner associations who make a positive contribution to Madison’s appearance through landscaping.

The following properties earned the designation of “Best in Show”:

* Small campus — Edward Jones (Clover Landscape Group).

* Large campus — Madison Hospital Healing Garden.

* HOA – Clift’s Cove neighborhood (Alabama Lawn Masters).

* Apartments – The Dempsey (Clover Landscape Group).

In other activities, Madison Beautification and Tree Board requests residents to participate with friends and family on National Cleanup Day on Sept. 21. September has the designation of National Cleanup Month.

Madison’s theme for the month of September is “Keep Madison Beautiful.”

Volunteers with the Beautification and Tree Board and its Pride of Madison program will schedule a citywide cleanup event for Sept. 21. Throughout the month, sponsors of “Adopt a Spot” locations will schedule a cleanup event to reduce litter on roadways, parks and greenways.
