Mustangs sweep baseball doubleheader in Scottsboro

SCOTTSBORO – Myles Johnson allowed five hits, struck out six and walked one in a complete- game for fourth-ranked Madison Academy in an 8-1 Class 5A, Area 16 win.

The Mustangs (21-5 overall, 3-1 area) won the second game of a doubleheader 9-0 in a game that counts on records but is only used in the area standings for tie-breaking purposes if needed.

In the opener, Johnson also went 3-for-4 with a double, and Tee Foster went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brayden Gardner hit a threerun home run and Keaton Watson added two hits and an RBI.

In the nightcap, starter Shane Duke struck out 12, walked one and allowed just one hit. Jaiden Etienne and Foster both threw a hitless inning with a combined five strikeouts. Also for Madison Academy, Foster had a hit with two RBIs, Jaiden Etienne an RBI-triple, Watson an RBI-double, Tyler Holder and Gardner both tripled and Johnson doubled.

James Clemens 5, South Elgin (Ill.) 2:

In Murfreesboro, Tenn., the Jets completed play in the Warrior Spring Classic with a win over the Storm to finish 2-1 in their two-day trip to the Volunteer State.

Hudson Smith had a two-run single and a run-scoring double to pace James Clemens (17-8). Devier Ramos added two hits and Matthew Drinkwater and Nathan Robertson both picked up an RBI. Zac Mann got the win in one inning of relief sandwiched between three innings apiece by starter Braden Powless and Jesse Isensee.

South Hills (Ca.) 5, James Clemens 3:

In Murfreesboro earlier Friday, the Jets fell to the Huskies from West Covina. Drinkwater had two hits including a tworun double, Smith an RBI-single and Ian Berry added two hits.

Florence 6, Sparkman 5:

In Florence, the Falcons scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Senators, who had moved ahead with a run in the top of the inning when Brendan VanDeWynckel singled and later scored on a passed ball.

Florence ended it with a twoout, two-run single by Henry Blanke.

Tye Aguon had two hits with a triple, two RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases for Sparkman (12-15). VanDeWynckel had two hits, an RBI and run scored, Tre Aguon had two hits and Jayden Hammons tripled.

In Madison, Dillion Adkins went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, and stolen base. Winning pitcher Jack Shaw struck out 10, walked one and allowed three hits in 5.1 innings.

Myles Hammonds added a two-run double, Mason Rinehart and Nick Koukos both had two hits and Tanner Hermesch doubled for the 7A, second- ranked Patriots (22-8).

In Madison, Robert Chatmon doubled among two of the Jets five hits and pitcher Cam Martin took the loss. Winning pitcher Carter Edwards, who went 6.2 innings in the shutout. Josh Burrell went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBIs for the Tigers (17-9), who later lost 16-0 to Buckhorn.
