Erica White announces run for Madison City Council, District 6
MADISON – Local resident and business owner Erica White has announced her intention to run for Madison City Council, District 6 in the August 26 municipal election. She is the first candidate to announce her candidacy for District 6. The deadline for candidates to qualify for city races is June 24.
According to a statement released by White’s campaign, she moved to the area and began her career as an electrical engineer with the United States Department of Defense after graduating from Tuskegee University. “In 2019, she committed to Madison City’s District 6 for the long-haul by purchasing land to build the home that she and her family plan to reside in for the foreseeable future.”
“Out of all of the cites in the country, there’s nowhere else I’d choose to live and raise my children,” White said. “As a native of Detroit, Michigan and after traveling all over the country (and world), I chose Madison. I still choose Madison.”
“My neighborhood is filled with both long-term residents who’ve raised several generations in the area, as well as newcomers who are just discovering how special Madison is,” she added. “I want to work to preserve the greatness that has drawn so many people to this city. I want to support the inevitable growth in a thoughtful way.”
White served as a DOD Civilian for eleven years before transitioning to becoming a local business owner.
“The positions she held as a DOD Civilian helped her hone her critical thinking skills, and her ability to collaborate with people of all backgrounds with many different ideas,” her campaign stated. “Entrepreneurship has taught her leadership, financial management and creative thinking. Her background in service has taught her the importance of listening, clear communication and empathy.”
