Journey Middle School honors Florestine Keith as ‘Staff Member of the Year’

MADISON – Journey Middle School’s faculty and staff selected Florestine Keith, better known as ‘Mrs. Flo,’ as “Staff Member of the Year” for 2025. Keith definitely considers this recognition as one of the highlights of her career.

“Thank you for the opportunity to share my story,” Keith said. “I am honored by this recognition, and I am grateful to be part of the Madison City Schools family.”

Keith has worked for Madison City Schools since 2016. Before that time, she worked in the hospitality industry.

“I am proud of the work I do . . . it may not always be glamorous, but it is essential and meaningful to our schools and city,” Keith said.

During her years with the Madison district, Keith has worked as a custodian at James Clemens High School and Liberty Middle School – before her current work at Journey.

“I believe in having a structured plan to ensure everything gets done according to high standards. That way, if unexpected issues arise, they can be handled efficiently and with minimal disruption,” Keith said.

“From James Clemens to Liberty and now Journey, her journey has been one of grace, strength and unwavering dedication. Her kind heart and tireless work ethic have left a lasting imprint on every campus she’s touched,” Journey Principal Dr. Treva Stewart said.

Keith was born and raised in Huntsville. She previously lived in Triana and now Madison for more than 40 years.

Her husband, Thomas Keith, recently retired. “We have three children — Tumia, Tavis and Kayla — all of whom graduated from Bob Jones High School and live here in Madison,” Florestine Keith said. “I also have two grandchildren who are currently attending Bob Jones. Go Patriots!”

Away from her job at Journey, Florestine loves to cook and bake. “I am especially known for my dressing and homemade caramel cake,” she said.

“Spending time with family is my favorite thing to do. Nothing beats gathering with loved ones and enjoying each other’s company,” Keith said.
