MCDAB presents check to Parks and Recreation, chairperson steps down

MADISON – After serving as the chairperson for the Madison City Disability Advocacy Board (MCDAB) for nine years, Janessa Crosswy is moving and stepping down from her role. In one of her last acts as chairperson, she presented a check for a $20,000 donation from MCDAB to the Madison City Parks and Recreation.

“It has been my honor to serve and we have worked very closely with Parks and Rec, and [Parks and Recreation Director] Kory [Alfred] has been absolutely amazing and fantastic to work with and get so many specialized areas for us in the new community center – we are thrilled about that – to improve our parks over the last several years, to help us be able to have a place to do events that we want to do that cater especially to our families with special needs,” Crosswy said at the Sept. 8 city council meeting.

In recognition of her service to the city of Madison, Crosswy was presented with an official city coin by councilwoman Maura Wroblewski.

“It has been my honor and privilege to get to know Janessa over the last nine years. She has been a wonderful advocate for those that often don’t have a voice,” said Wroblewski.

MCDAB’s $20,000 donation will support existing and new special needs programs in the city’s Parks and Recreation department. Marisa Estrada is stepping up to further much of Crosswy and MCDAB’s work as the city’s new Special Needs Program Coordinator, a role she stepped into in July.
