Fantasy Playhouse Theater reimagines the classic story of Cinderella Oct. 17-26
HUNTSVILLE – Cinderella is returning to Huntsville with a fresh twist from the Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy. For their 65th season, the theater is reimagining the classic story in their brand new facility on Oct. 17-19, and 24-26.
Unlike the traditional story, in this play, Cinderella will not be waiting for a prince to come save her.
“Cinderella is not waiting to be saved. She has accepted her life as a cindermaid, she works to serve her stepmother and stepsisters, as the promise she made to her late father. She’s got a really strong work ethic, and it’s a really big care component of Cinderella that makes the audience really root for her right out of the gate. Her tragic flaw is that she settles. It’s the fairy godmother that nudges her and says, “Hey, you have so much more to give,” Artistic Director Stephen Tyler Davis said.
Cinderella learns about courage, loyalty and true beauty in this new tale while still getting her happy ending.
Original songs by Stacy Morris give the show a modern sound. Yet, when Cinderella appears in her sparkling blue gown, audiences will know they’re in the presence of a classic.
Fantasy Playhouse is not only in the business of changing up fairy tales; they are also changing lives. Their mission goes far beyond entertainment—it’s about giving children the chance to discover confidence, creativity, and connection through theatre.
“We get to inspire these kids, and we are shaping them into becoming remarkable adults through these skills we are teaching them. It’s so much bigger than Cinderella, and I’m really proud of that work,” Davis said.
Davis hopes that the play will prove to be an inspiration for both the kids and adults watching to have thoughtful and productive conversations on the way home.
“As I am creating these plays, I am thinking about the conversations on the way home, in the van. When all the families leave, they are like, ‘Oh, what did you think?’ I write plays for those moments. I just hope that we inspire really fruitful conversations on the way home. About kindness, teamwork, dreaming big, and I want the parents to be proud that they took their kid to come see this show,” Davis mentioned.
Cinderella runs October 17–19 and 24–26 at Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy, 3320 Triana Boulevard SW.
Tickets are $24 for adults and $18 for children and can be purchased at FantasyPlayhouse.org.
Audiences of all ages are invited to dream big, believe boldly, and experience the magic of a story reimagined.
