Joshua Hollingsworth, Alicia Waddail promoted to MCS administrators

MADISON – Two familiar faces on campuses of Madison City Schools now are serving as administrators at different schools.

Joshua Hollingsworth has been promoted to Assistant Principal at Discovery Middle School, and Alicia Waddail has accepted the position for Madison Aspiring Administrators Program or MAAP at Heritage Elementary School. Hollingsworth and Waddail are filling vacancies left by job advancements of their predecessors.

Hollingsworth has been teaching science at Bob Jones High School. He fills the vacancy for Kate Wade, who was promoted to Discovery Principal. He has eight years of experience in science instruction and coaching.

In 2016, his career started at Huntsville High School; Hollingsworth taught biology and coached football, basketball and golf. He moved to Hamilton Middle School in 2017 to teach Project Lead the Way courses and coach football and basketball.

After spending three years as football coach at Murray State University and Itawamba Community College, he returned to high school teaching at Bob Jones. He also has taught astronomy, earth and space science, along with environmental science.

Hollingsworth earned a bachelor’s degree in biology education at Faulkner University in Montgomery and a master’s degree in instructional leadership from the University of West Alabama. Currently, he is pursuing an educational specialist degree in administration of elementary and secondary education.

A native of Hamilton, he played football and golf at Faulkner. After graduation, he played football for one season with the Helsinki Roosters in Finland.

His wife, Jordan Hollingsworth, works as Operations Manager for a Huntsville company. Their infant son is named Watson. Away from work, Joshua likes spending time with his family, playing golf and watching sports.

Waddail has compiled numerous years as an educator in special education. Her most recent assignment has been special education at Mill Creek Elementary School as a collaborative/inclusion teacher. She has served in numerous leadership roles within her school and the MCS district.

The Waddail family lives in Madison. Alicia and her husband Jeff are parents of two children who attend Liberty Middle School and James Clemens High School, according to Heritage Principal Dr. Georgina Nelson.

“Mrs. Waddail will continue at Mill Creek until a replacement can be hired to take over her caseload at Mill Creek. In the meantime, join me in welcoming her to our Heritage family!” Nelson said.

Waddail received a bachelor’s degree in special education collaborative. She also holds a master’s degree in elementary education.

“I have taught a wide range of levels and grades: high school in a self-contained setting, middle school inclusion/collaborative setting, kindergarten and first grade transitional level and all elementary grades inclusion/ collaborative setting,” she said in her teacher’s online profile.

Mill Creek selected Waddail as “Teacher of the Year” for 2025.

“I have enjoyed every school, student and job I have had in my amazing career and have been blessed beyond measure. (As MAAP Principal), I am looking forward to working with our students and helping them grow in all areas!” Waddail said.

“I enjoy everything St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Georgia Southern University and University of Georgia football,” Waddail said. “When not watching or playing sports with my family, I enjoy running and time outside.”
