Train Alert Notification System is now active for Madison

MADISON – In “Madison Weekly” for the week of Jan. 11, Mayor Ranae Bartlett discussed improvements that most residents will appreciate.

Residents spoke, and the city listened with the launch of the Train Alert Notification System. The alerts “serve as a clear example of how Madison is using smart technology and community input to solve real, everyday challenges,” Bartlett said.

These alerts give valuable data that the city can share “with Norfolk Southern, helping strengthen coordination and collaboration as we work alongside the rail industry,” Bartlett said.

The tracks in downtown directly affect District 3, and Council Member Billie Goodson has been active in monitoring the impact to his district. Goodson’s participation, along with residents’ interest, is helping to evaluate and improve the pilot phase, Bartlett said.

In activity at Palmer Park, city workers have improved access for visitors by paving the parking lot in the park’s upper quad. Help from County Commissioner Steve Haraway expedited the upgrade.

“By making targeted infrastructure improvements like this one, the city continues to enhance the safety, usability and overall experience of Madison’s public spaces,” Bartlett said. “Thank you to our county partners for helping improve quality of life for our residents!”

In city accomplishments, Madison earned the designation of “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation. “This designation reflects our ongoing efforts to protect, maintain and grow our urban forest for current and future generations,” Bartlett said. “As Tree City USA celebrates its 50th anniversary, we’re proud that Madison’s commitment to community forestry and responsible tree care is being recognized at the national level.”

In a salute to police officers, Bartlett said the city recognized National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Jan. 9. “Their commitment, professionalism and dedication help keep our community safe each day. We appreciate their service and the vital role they play in supporting our residents and neighborhoods.”
