FCA gears up for its annual Summer Sports Camps, other events
MADISON – Summer is now kicking off and promises to be hotter than ever for the Northwest Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes with scheduled events for athletes of all ages and depth of spiritual engagement. The FCA will host its annual Summer Sports Camps, Power Sports Camps, and Middle School Power Leadership Conference and complete the summer months with the annual (PTL) High School Power Sports Conference.
“We have 62 interns coming this summer to serve wholeheartedly over a thousand campers,” said Ken Burnett, FCA Multi-Area Director. “The financial needs of the camp season for FCA are always an opportunity for spiritual growth for our team and others can help by partnering financially and helping send kids to sports camp or by sending students to the PTL.”
The FCA onset to summer begins with the eightday Spiritual Bootcamp where 62 summer interns will be trained and prepped for a powerful season of ministry. The conclusion of the Bootcamp will include a graduation ceremony which will feature speaker FCA President Shane Williamson who will encourage those interns to succeed and serve the FCA.
From there, the FCA launches into its annual four Power Sports Camps which cost $250 per camper. The events are scheduled for Marshall County (Sand Mountain Park-Albertville) June 8-12, Madison County East (Whitesburg ROC) June 15-19, Cullman County (Cullman High School) July 6-10 and Madison County West (Bob Jones High School) July 13-17. With 24 staff members, 62 interns and numerous volunteers, camp season is a true team effort and business assistance is needed.
The Middle School PTL (grades 6-8) cost $200 and will be held at Madison Academy July 30-31 with hotel accommodations secured at the nearby Marriott, located at the Space & Rocket Center. Students will stay at the Marriott for the overnight stay, but the conference will held at nearby Madison Academy. The huge event will feature free games, bowling, ropes course, pizza and more. Each student will be given three tickets to the Josiah Queen concert held during the High School PTL the following weekend.
The High School PTL (grades 9-12) will be held Aug. 7-8 at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville with overnight stay at the Embassy Suites adjacent to the VBC. This year’s event will feature an incredible lineup that will challenge and inspire students to lead for their Faith on their campuses. The Friday night kickoff will include Pastor Louis Giglio, the best-selling author of over a dozen books. Giglio and his wife, Shelley, make their home in Atlanta. Since 1997, his Passion Ministry has inspired students across the country.
The PTL will also feature worship throughout the weekend led by Jeremy Rosado, an American Idol season 11 competitor. After a short musical career, he chose to get away from the limelight and dedicate his life to being “dad” for his niece after taking over legal guardianship to enable to secure a stable home life for the young girl. In 2021, getting his niece through high school and into college, Rosado began to sing again and ventured onto The Voice where he joined Kelly Clarkson’s team. He did that while serving as a worship leader at his local church in Lakeland, Fla., and he now tells his story of perseverance, sacrifice and love for both his family and music all in the journey with his Faith.
The FCA summer will come to a close on the second night of the PTL Leadership Conference on Aug. 8 with a free concert featuring Josiah Queen, one of the most impactful voices in Christian Music. His debut album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums Chart and tours America to play his music and inspire young audiences with Faith, honesty and hope. He and his wife, Trinity, are based in Tampa, Fla.
