Planning ahead for next school year? Heritage’s Trip Planner can help

MADISON – Currently, Madison City Schools’ students, teachers and staff are settled into summer vacation. However, the first day of the 20262027 school year will soon arrive.

To arrange for vacations and holidays, families can look ahead with the Trip Planner, the brainchild of the staff of Heritage Elementary School.

“Planning ahead helps support student success. Our 2026-2027 Trip Planner highlights school breaks and extended weekends throughout the year, making it easier for families to schedule travel while minimizing missed instructional time,” according to Heritage’s website, hrtg.madisoncity.k12. al.us.

“Every day matters, and together we can help students stay connected to learning,” according to the staff. “Please help us reduce absences by planning ahead for trips during school breaks.”

For the Thanksgiving holiday in 2026, MCS will close starting Wednesday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 29. Students and faculties will return to class on Nov. 30.

Winter holidays for the Christmas and New Year’s Day observances will run from Saturday, Dec. 19, 2026, through Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027. Classes resume on Jan. 6, 2027. School administrators refer to this break as an “18day opportunity.”

To observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, students and teaching staff will not report for classes on Jan. 18, 2027. In addition, schools will be closed for Presidents’ Day on Feb. 15, 2027.

Spring Break in 2027 will run from Saturday, March 13 through Sunday, March 21. The full week’s break will give days off for the entire week of March 15. Classes will resume on March 22.
