Independent Musical Productions to present ‘The Prince of Egypt – The Musical’ this week

HUNTSVILLE – Set against the grandeur of ancient Egypt, the conflict of two brothers about lifestyles will energize the stage when Independent Musical Productions or IMP presents “The Prince of Egypt – The Musical.”

“The Prince of Egypt – The Musical” follows brothers, raised side by side, who come to embody opposing ways of living: one built on fear, control and self-preservation and the other rooted in trust, vulnerability and self-sacrifice.

Though grounded in a story of faith, the musical speaks universally to remind the audience that each individual has ‘an Egypt’ from which we hope for deliverance, and the items that we truly need can be found in the places we never dared to go.

Stephen Schwartz wrote the show’s music and lyrics. Philip La-Zebnik produced the book.

“The Prince of Egypt – The Musical” is a sweeping yet intimate exploration of the human struggle between power and peace. As Moses awakens to the truth of his identity and the suffering of the enslaved Hebrews, he is drawn away from the illusion of safety and abundance promised by the Egyptian kingdom.

However, Moses and the Hebrews must face the uncertainty of the desert — where freedom, connection and wholeness are found not through dominance but through courage and surrender.

Cast members include DeCorian Cobb (Moses), Jessie Kisor (Ramses), Shannon Rice (Tuya), Juan Bedolla (Seti), Caleb Martin (Hotep), Myah Motton (Tzipporah), Sallie Martin (Miriam), Charlie Gonzalez (Aaron), Greta Russo (Nefertari) and Jeff Stricklin (Jethro).

Founded in 1993, IMP is Huntsville’s premier community theater and an all-volunteer organization. IMP delivers professional-quality performances while nurturing the next generation of theater artists. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, IMP strives to inspire, educate and entertain through the transformative power of live theater.

Show times for “The Prince of Egypt – The Musical” will be July 16, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m., along with matinees on July 18 and 19 at 2 p.m.

The musical’s venue will be Mainstage Theater at Lee High School, 2500 Meridian St. N. in Huntsville.
