Bob Jones, Sparkman fall in flag football
TRUSSVILLE – Host Hewitt-Trussville, ranked No. 9 in the state, overwhelmed Bob Jones 26-6 in the season-opener for both teams.
The Lady Huskies outgained the Lady Patriots 220-24, collected five interceptions and had a safety.
Hewitt-Trussville’s Taylor McLaughlin completed 10-of-18 passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. Emma Gilmer had six receptions for 54 yards and a score, Ava Standridge had a rushing TD and Morgan Hoffman had a TD catch. Peerson Waller had two interceptions with four flag pulls in the win.
Defensively, Hoffman, Mia Ji and Gilmer all had an interception, and Kaylee White had three sacks.
Bob Jones was scheduled to host Columbia on Thursday, but no result has been posted.
Decatur 19, Sparkman 13: In Harvest, the visiting Lady Red Raiders intercepted five passes, including a pick-6 by Amiracle Bolden and Miley Daniels had a pair of interceptions.
Jazlyn Jackson completed 13-of-25 passes for 89 yards and ran for 54 more. Latoya Dancy led the Red Raiders with 10 flag pulls, Daijah Seals and Luna Gutierrez had four pulls each and Gutierrez had three sacks.
