Madison County is one of 10 North Alabama counties that will share a $75,000 grant from Gov. Don Siegelman aimed at increasing highway safety in the region. The grant will provide law enforcement agencies with funding to put additional officers on the highways for safety checks. The other counties involved are Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Marion, Morgan and Winston Counties.
The city of Madison has donated more than 12,195 pounds of food in the recent Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive conducted by The National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S. Postal Service in Huntsville and surrounding cities in North Alabama. A total of 109,505 pounds of food was collected.
U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer announced The University of Alabama in Huntsville has received $400,000 in federal funding for its computer network and computer security upgrades. UAH will use the money for its Technology Enhanced Project to upgrade and extend the existing campus computer work and enhance critical computer security systems.
