Gillespie elected to state board
Madison County Commission Chairman Mike Gillespie has been elected to the board of directors of the statewide association that represents Alabama's county governments.
District 2, which Gillespie represents, consists of Madison and Limestone counties. The association is a statewide organization that represents county government in the state.
New water treatment facility on line
The Mountain Fork Water Treatment Facility is on line and treating more than five million gallons of water from the Cress Well in northeastern Madison County.
This is Madison County's primary water source. Prior to the switch, Madison County water customers were asked to conserve so those reservoirs could be filled to meet demand. Madison County, under mandate from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, has spent more than $7 million and two years to construct the new water treatment facility located on 12 acres of land near New Market.
The facility can pump and filter eight million gallons of water per day. With a few modifications upon consumer need, capacity can be doubled to 16 million gallons a day.
Due to dry weather, Madison County water customers are encouraged to continue to conserve water.
