Hughes Road banners ready for change

Business owners in Madison will get the opportunity to promote their name high in the sky along Hughes Road in the form of community-oriented banners.
The dozen-plus banners that now hang on light poles along Hughes Road will come down and be replaced with new banners that are being designed by Mayor Jan Wells and Community Banner Services.
Wells approached Community Banner Services last year with the idea of hanging banners along Madison's main roadways as a means to not only promote the city itself, but also to promote businesses in Madison. The banners that exist on Hughes Road were hung earlier this year with a patriotic theme in mind.
"The city will again partner with Community Banner Services in the design of the two-sided banners for 2003," Wells said. "I have agreed to the request of Huntsville Utilities that no additional poles be added to the program at this time."
Business owners who had a banner made this year have been given the first opportunity to renew their contract for 2003.
"Public response to the banners has been positive and I feel that they are a highly visible and tasteful means of promoting local business while beautifying our city," Wells said.
Community Banner Services is offering five packages that vary in price depending on how many banners are purchased.
For more information about the banners, call Community Banner Services at 1-800-398-3029.
